While in the past most patients relied on word-of-mouth recommendations from friends and family members, patients are now using the internet to help them determine which medical professionals they want to see. In fact, as many as 80 percent of consumers trust an online review from a stranger just as much as they trust a recommendation from a loved one. Below is a list of the three most popular review sites for health care providers.

The first review of your practice your patient will see is usually a Google Review. This is because up to 90 percent of patients who use the internet use Google as their primary search engine. When searching a business, its Google Review rating appears directly under the listing on the search page.

The more reviews your practice has, especially positive ones, the more likely it is for your practice to appear on the first page of a search.

While Yelp is popular for consumer reviews, it now has a section dedicated to health care practices. Yelp has 149 million monthly views, so the chances are high a potential patient will be looking for a new provider in your area. Reviews are also displayed on the Apple Maps app, which provides even more visibility.

Healthgrades provides more than just reviews; it includes background information about your practice and providers. More than one million people visit Healthgrades per day. The organization also runs and as partner sites.
