Katie Fennelly, Digital Project Manager

Tell us a little bit about yourself (i.e., professional background, hobbies, interests, etc.).

I’m the digital project manager here at Fuel. I went to school at Washington State University and earned my bachelor’s in digital technology & culture. My focuses were graphic design, web design & development and videography.

I got used to juggling many marketing projects at once at my first job out of college—as a marketing coordinator at a local nonprofit. I designed and developed their website, created videos and graphics for social media campaigns, wrote client impact stories for the newsletters, managed their SEM campaigns and developed catchy fundraising initiatives. I loved spinning all the plates, working behind the scenes and watching the success of those campaigns translate into positive ripples in our community.

With that experience, a local web agency hired me as their project manager. Having the technical experience gave me an edge, but this position gave me experience in both account management and project management. I learned about working with clients from all industries. From tiny, single-author blog websites to large-scale, complex e-commerce websites, we did it all.

As for my hobbies, those change all the time! In this chapter of my life, I love traveling (and finding amazing deals on travel!), roller skating and night-sky photography. Essentially, I’m the female version of Walter Mitty (minus swimming with sharks).

What is the most valuable resource you provide to our members, and what does an average day look like?

Websites! They are truly the foundation for our members’ online presence—their digital doorstep and office, so to speak. My average day consists of brainstorming ideas for web designs with our talented digital design team, working with our awesome digital project coordinator to manage project assets and wireframes and meeting with members to kick off new projects or to present their final, ready-to-launch websites! I feel very lucky to be in this position, managing creative and—honestly—fun projects.

Tell us something unique about you.

Growing up, Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes was my hero. I went to pastry school right out of high school because I wanted to make off-the-charts, wild, sculpted cakes like Duff. My career path changed, of course, but I do still occasionally make wedding cakes—and they’re never boring.

What is one thing you cannot live without?

Cedar Street Bagels in Camas makes these salt bagels that are out of this world. I once went three weeks without having one—never again!
